Our hotels will always be first class since we stay at Three & Four Star rated hotel properties such as Sheraton, Marriott properties as well as Holiday Inns, Hampton Inns and Drury Inn & Suites and similar properties. Tuesday, January 31 - We'll leave Camden late afternoon from our departure location at the Wal-Mart store, Highway 641 N. ready for sun & fun and warm weather. Each day we will take several rest breaks along the way as well as a lunch break. We’ll overnight in Memphis in order to be near the Amtrak station for the early arrival of The City of New Orleans. Meal Codes – Breakfast (B) – Lunch (L) – Dinner (D) - (Today: D) Wednesday, Feb 1st - We'll be at the train station when our train arrives from Chicago about 6: 30 a.m. & we'll leave for New Orleans just before 7 a.m. Riding The City of New Orleans to the "Big Easy" is going to be an adventure that most folks will never experience. You'll have plenty of leg room in your "recliner" seat complete with a leg rest to watch the world pass by. See the catfish farms, cotton plantations with the "big-house" & the dilapidated share-cropper homes, small towns & wildlife galore. Watch for different type of animals/birds as we travel thru some of Louisiana's bayou country & as we skirt Lake Pontchatrain. We'll be on board our train during breakfast & lunch going to New Orleans. You'll experience it all as you select from the snack & sandwich selections in the Lounge Car or complete regional cuisine meals in the Dining Car with fancy white tablecloths & all the finery you'd expect. Each train has its own on-board chef & all food is prepared to order. Meals while on board are not included in your tour price to allow you to budget your expenses according to your needs & wishes. In the double-decker “Sightseer” Lounge Car with wrap-around windows you can watch the movies or just sit back & enjoy this great experience & all the wonderful scenery. We’re Here - We'll arrive at the New Orleans train station mid-afternoon & our motorcoach will be waiting to take you to our hotel in the French Quarters. After check in & some time to freshen up, it's back on our coach for an evening visit to the French Quarters. (Meals: B) Thursday, Feb 2nd After our delicious breakfast, we'll board our coach for a full day of adventure. A local, professional tour guide will join us this morning to give us a look at the New Orleans that we've only heard about. Centuries old architecture sets the scene for a tour through the city. Our guide will usher us through the city's most fascinating neighborhoods & landmarks all the while sharing interesting facts & fabled stories you'll never forget. The French Quarters, Jackson Square, the Cabildo, historic Esplanade Avenue & St. Louis Cemetery, the “city of the dead” with its above ground tombs are just a little of what we’ll see on this great tour. We’ll also visit the Katrina destroyed 9th Ward and see the damaged home of the great entertainer Fats Domino who survived by staying in his attic crawl space for days. After our lunch break, we’ll head out to the Destrehan Plantation. Established in 1787, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi River Valley. Costumed guides will intrigue you with the legacy of the Destrehan family and historic events that occurred at this site. It’s almost Mardi Gras so let’s enjoy a little bit of pre - “Pre-Mardi Gras” with a visit to Mardi Gras World. This is literally the place where Mardi Gras magic is made. We’ll walk among towering figures of fantasy and marvel at the skill and technology that animate the mega-floats. Tonight there’s more free time for you to enjoy the French Quarters. (Meals: B) Friday, Feb 3rd - This morning, after another hearty breakfast, we’ll continue our tour by motor coach and head toward the beautiful city of Mobile, Alabama. Our first stop in Mobile will be the USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park. Tour World War II Battleship USS ALABAMA, winner of 9 Battle Stars, WWII Submarine USS DRUM, Vietnam River Patrol Boat, B-52 D “Calamity Jane” bomber, A-12 “Blackbird” spyplane, Tuskegee Airmen P-51D Mustang, F-16 Falcon and 20 other historic warbirds from the past seven decades. Later tonight, before we settle in for the evening at our Mobile area hotel, we’ll enjoy a delicious group dinner. (Meals: B & D) Saturday, Feb 4th Today we will travel a short distance to Panama City, Florida where we will check into our luxury hotel directly on the Gulf of Mexico. This afternoon is free for you to enjoy the beach at your leisure. A fabulous dinner is planned tonight at Captain Anderson’s Seafood Restaurant. We nap, play games, watch movies and just reflex on all we’ve seen and done during this great vacation tour.
