You will see a “Meals” guide at the end of the day’s events. “B” is breakfast, “L” is lunch, & “D” is dinner. Today, for example, dinner is included in your tour price. FRIDAY, JULY 8TH After a delicious breakfast at our hotel this morning, we’ll head westward on thru Kansas and into Colorado. We’ll have a delicious dinner before checking into our hotel in Denver for the evening. (Meals: B & D) SATURDAY, JULY 9TH After a hearty breakfast, we board our coach for our Denver city tour. We’ll see the “sights and sounds” of the Mile High City. Next is a ride on the Georgetown Scenic Railroad. This is an old- time steam locomotive chugging its way up the canyon, hauling our train past the remains of several gold and silver miles. This short ride will take us over mountainous terrain requiring trestles, cuts, fills, loops and curves of narrow gauge track. Next is our tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine, taking us 500 feet into a mine tunnel bored in the 1870’s. Our guide will point out rich veins of silver and tell us about early-day mining. The temperature inside the mine is a constant 44 degrees, so bring a jacket. (Meals: B & D) SUNDAY, JULY 10TH This morning we’ll meet the Amtrak Zepher arriving from Chicago on its way to San Francisco, California. It will make a stop in Denver where we will board and ride across the Colorado Rockies. We will leave Denver at 8:00 a.m. and arrive in Grand Junction around 4 p.m. where we will leave the train, have dinner and overnight. This is one of the most beautiful train rides in America. You’ll climb high atop the Rockies and deep into the valleys and travel along the Colorado River. You’ll travel thru 30 tunnels; and, oh, one thing not to be missed is “Moon River”. I will tell you more about that on the bus. It’s quite funny. You’ll can have lunch in either the dining car or snack bar. (Meals: B & D). MONDAY, JULY 11TH Todays adventures include our three hour Jeep Tour over Corkscrew Pass into the Red Mountains, where a picnic style lunch is included. Then on to the Silverton-Durango Railroad where we travel along the Animas River from Durango to Silverton winding through spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of San Juan National Forest. Historic Silverton offers you a unique blend of shopping that can only be found in this charming Victorian town. Then on to Pagosa Springs, CO for our overnight. (Meals: B & L) TUESDAY, JULY 12TH Today, with cameras ready, we’ll ride the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, a 64-mile, full operational steam railroad jointly owned by the states of Colorado and New Mexico. You enjoy seeing spectacular scenery and an unspoiled landscape, as well as the historic railroad structures preserved on the line dating back to the turn of the twentieth century. We travel into New Mexico and thru the town of Charma, NM before stopping in Osier, CO for a hot lunch and then make our way to Antonito, CO. Here we change trains at Antonio Station and ride the Toltec Limited to Alamosa traveling through the spectacular and famous scenic Toltec Gorge Valley. We’ll overnight in Alamosa. (Meals: B & L) WEDNESDAY, JULY 13TH Here’s another great day of “riding the rails”. We’ll ride the Royal Gorge Railroad along the tumbling waters of the legendary Arkansas River deep within the granite cliffs of the Royal Gorge as we travel to Colorado Springs, CO. where we will stay for the next two evenings. Today we’ll visit the Garden of the Gods, a registered National Natural Landmark and have dinner at Guiseppe’s Old Depot Restaurant, located in the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Depot. (Meals: B & D) THURSDAY, JULY 14TH Today we’ll visit the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, located at the foot of Pikes Peak. Preserved under a protective red sandstone overhand, these authentic Anasazi cliff dwellings were built more than 700 years ago and are a rate historical treasure. Yes, you are welcome to go inside and see and touch anything you wish. Another train ride this afternoon as we take a round trip ride to the top of Pike’s Peak on the Cog Railway. This 9-mile ride travels along Ruston Creek in Englemann Canyon. The on board guides like to point out the various faces and shapes (with a little bit of imagination) that can be seen in the giant boulders. Dinner tonight is at one of my favorite stops that I’ve been going to for nearly 12 years now – The Flying W Chuck Wagon Dinner Show. I love the American Cowboy music and well as the great country and gospel that the Flying W Wranglers will sing for us tonight. (Meals: B & D) FRIDAY, JULY 15TH Today we start home heading back to Topeka where we will have dinner and overnight. (Meals: B & D) SATURDAY, JULY 16TH After breakfast, we’ll point our coach homeward arriving in Camden around 6 p.m. (Meals: B) TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Deluxe Motorcoach Transportation—Services of Professional Guides - 10 Days/9 Nights First Class Hotel Rooms with Baggage Handling – Admissions & train tickets shown in the Brochure – & 18 Delicious Meals – (9 Breakfasts - 2 Lunches – 7 Dinners) Including Tax & Tips Call us today to receive a full brochure 584-9395 OR 1-800-874-3166 |
